My Students
My students are learning Korean as their second language. Most of my students are not Korean. They are learning Korean to fulfill their foreign language credits in order to receive a high school diploma. I also teach second and third-generation Korean Americans.
My students come from all parts of Queens with various economic, educational, cultural and language backgrounds.
They learn the Korean language, culture, and heritage in my class and we need a lot of resources since the city budget is very tight on education.
My Project
In September, I will be teaching in the physical classroom again. I am actually very excited to see them in real figures(no more anime characters :) without any unexpected technical issues that we have encountered for the last one and a half years. When the students come back to school, I would like to welcome them with mini starter kit for the new school year. Many of them went through challenges during COVID-19 and I want them to feel that they are welcome here. If I recieve all the materials, each student will recieve pencils, a pen, some purell wipes and a notebook. I hope these will make them feel happy to be back. Students will use the notebook every day in classroom. Since they are learning Korean as a second language, they need to practice writing and I want them to keep their own Journal in Korean class. The order of the notebooks, pens, and pencils will help them to improve their writing skills in Korean.
