Weird Science: Looking And Feeling Like Scienctists
My students need lab coats, goggles, thermometers, solar energy kits, an air mass generator, models of the solar system, heart, lungs, and moon phases for the ultimate lab experience.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you did a science experiment in class? I want my students to have the same opportunity to experience the wonder and excitement you received when you were discovering our natural world. With the proper lab resources this will happen.
I am a 3-5th grade science coach in one of the low income schools in Miami, Florida.
I enjoy motivating and stimulating my students in science using the practical tools for understanding science education. However, with the many changes happening in our school system and budget cuts, I am unable to provide many of the experiences my students need in order to learn the science content in a fun and unforgettable way. Despite all of this, I am determined to help my students compete in the real world by strengthening their critical thinking skills in the area of science. I would really like to see my students embrace it, without thinking about it.
My Project
Finally, I see my students as being great scientist and I believe that if we start investing in them now that many would go on to pursue an education in the area of science. I would be elated if my students are afforded the proper science resources, like the lab coats, goggles, thermometers, solar energy kits, air mass generator, models of the solar system, heart, lungs, and moon phases, in order to give them an authentic science experience in the classroom. To me, not only would these science resources and materials help them now, but would serve other students for years to come.
Your kind donation would allow my students to experience science in a way that they will certainly never forget.
On top of that, research shows how science labs can be among the richest experiences students encounter. So, I know I can count on your support to ensure that our students are getting the best science education they can within the classroom. In the words of Lou Rawls, "a mind is a terrible thing to waste". Thank you in advance for your support.
