My Students
The students in my special education classroom are Kindergarten and first graders who greet me each morning with great big smiles on their faces. They walk into my classroom every day full of life and ready to learn. The typical student in my class reads at a Pre-Kindergarten level, has very little reading or listening comprehension skills, and struggles with basic phonics, but are very enthusiastic and ready to learn. It is my hope that their love for learning will continue as they learn about the world around them.
My Project
My students need weighted animals and special seating to help with sensory and focusing issues. These items will help prepare my students to sit quietly and listen or complete independent work. These materials will not directly teach my students new skills, but they will help prime my students for learning in all content areas.
The donations for this project will improve my classroom by reducing the amount of behavioral issues, because the students will be able to use these items to self-calm and sit comfortably.
With fewer behavioral issues, we can increase our learning and time on task. I'm looking forward to seeing my students happier and ready to learn.
