My students need chart paper and 25 subscriptions to Scholastic News, an engaging nonfiction magazine, tailored to the unique reading levels of first graders.
Do you remember getting a magazine subscription when you were younger and looking forward to its arrival in the mail each month? For first graders, a Scholastic News subscription stirs up the same excitement about reading with brand news stories and information inside every week!
My students are an inquisitive group of six and seven year old first graders with a sincere thirst for knowledge.
They love learning and reading is often the surest way they can seek out answers to their multitude of questions. The school is made up of students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and as such, students enter first grade with tremendously different knowledge bases and interests.
My Project
We need chart paper and a subscription to Scholastic News, an engaging nonfiction magazine, tailored to the unique reading levels of first graders. These magazines and chart paper will be used weekly to provide students with exciting, engaging access to non-fiction magazines that are written with their reading abilities and interests in mind. They will allow students to read non-fiction texts that are so hard to find but so desperately needed for children whose wondering about the world never end.
These magazines will allow students to become life long readers by creating a true excitement and joy of reading.
This enthusiasm, generated by different, engaging stories each week, will help them to develop fluency and comprehend the stories they read across subjects.
