Children are exposed to current events through television, radio and the adults around them. Often the news they hear scares or worries them. Weekly Reader magazine helps students learn about current evens in a safe, appropriate way.
Throughout second grade, my students seem to gradually become "informed citizens".
As they grow through the school year, their discussions move from toys and games - to what the weather is going to be or the most recent disaster they have heard about. I encourage them to become inspired by the world around them, to do all the good they can in all the ways they can, and to dream big!
My Project
I am requesting a yearly Weekly Reader subscription (32 issues) for each of my students. Weekly Reader magazine provides students with reading, critical thinking, citizenship and science skills at their level. It helps them prepare for future standardized tests in a fun way. The magazine also helps them become independent in gathering information about the world around them.
Recently, Weekly Reader added a technology component to their services. Therefore, I am requesting four pairs of headphones for my students to explore and extend their learning on the computer - without the noise disturbing the rest of the class.
As adults, we read newspapers and magazine articles that help us stay informed on issues in our ever-changing world.
Please help my students become informed and aware of the world around them by donating to our project.
