My Students

"21st Century Education won't be defined by any new technology. It won't be just defined by 1:1 technology programs or tech-intensive projects. 21st Century Education will, however, be defined by a fundamental shift in what we are teaching - a shift towards learner-centered education and creating creative thinkers." - Karl Fisch

My students come primarily from middle to low-income households; therefore resources are often either very limited or insufficient.

A strong diversity among the students in my classroom and the way in which they interact and learn has become more evident to me. One of the goals that I set for myself early on in this school year was to adopt innovative strategies that would better enable me to reach out to all learners on a much more personal and creative level, allowing all students a chance to not only express themselves outwardly but to succeed in today's changing world.

My Project

My students need cutting edge tools and technology that will promote self-discovery and learning. The use of technology within my own classroom setting has been invaluable, it has allowed me the ability to better differentiate instruction for my students and to reach out to a wider range of learning abilities. iPads have become an essential literacy tool in my second grade classroom and they have really allowed my students to work more independently and efficiently. Children of all ages (even my 5 year old) are drawn to iPads and other gadgets, so using the Osmo Genius Kit and add on programs in my classroom makes perfect sense.

Osmo programming is a learner-led iPad game system that uses physical objects and learning tools in conjunction with the iPad.

With Osmo’s versatility and high engagement factor, students will be practicing key skills in areas like Math, Science, Social-Emotional Development, Creative Thinking, Literacy, and STEM education. All programs are directly aligned to our state's Common Core Standards. These programs are not only engaging for students but they also promote higher order thinking and self discovery and allow students to become more creative and self-directed critical thinkers.

It is clear that most jobs of the future will require a basic understanding of math and science education so I hope to acquire this magnificent Osmo genius kit and add on programs to foster such an environment, one that is rich in exploration and discovery. I want to create a more hands-on approach to learning while promoting a sense of self-worth and passion for the world around them. I appreciate your help in making this happen!
