This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in or around East Harlem, New York. They are strong, vibrant, resilient young adults that are doing their best to navigate their disabilities during this global pandemic. While growing up with learning disabilities is a challenge in itself, COVID-19 and remote learning has complicated things for my student population to levels that are beyond frustration.
My Project
My school is located in East Harlem, New York. My high school serves a large population of students with disabilities. Our students are over-aged and under credited and doing their best to reach their post secondary goals. My students struggle academically, socially, and emotionally. COVID-19 has drastically complicated the lives of students with disabilities. Myself and my colleagues are working hard to create a “Distance Learning” environment that is supportive and equitable to the needs of our special education population.
Teachers Pay Teachers offers academic content that can help us achieve our distance learning goals in supporting students with disabilities, during the pandemic.
