My students need webcams to see what the robot is doing even when they can't see the robot.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Johnson's classroom raised $342

My Students
My robotics team is an eclectic collection of students from AP and IB students to students with special needs. We are one of the oldest teams in South Carolina. In recent years my team has increased from 17 to 48 students. They attend not only my school, but also schools from adjacent school districts and a few home schooled students. With this degree of diversity, you could almost suspect the team to be fragmented. However, the team is very much like a family, with everyone supporting one another.
The team does more than build robots.
They learn the soft-skills that are important in college and future careers. They learn how to work together, communicate their ideas in ways that others can understand, and they learn to listen to others. During competitions, they recognize that they need to cooperate with other teams to build a winning alliance.
My Project
It may appear that a FIRST robot is nothing more than a sophisticated remote control car. At first sight, it is a correct assumption. However, the robot is required to do many intricate tasks that the driver/controller is unable to directly observe. These tasks include picking up gears and placing them on pegs, opening gates, aligning the robot with ropes to climb – just to name a few.
Often there are large game pieces on the playing field that obstructs the driver’s view of the robot.
This is where a webcam can come to the rescue. The camera allows the driver/controller to observe instantaneously the action in real-time. The images are relayed from the robot to the drive station computer. Depending upon the game, a robot may need only 1 webcam, or as many as 4 webcams.
