In my Art room, I continue striving to reach the needs of my students in order to facilitate effective learning. Every year my students tell me how much they love hands-on creating. Most years I am fortunate enough to be able to provide modeling clay for more active hands-building projects.
Introducing an art skill such as weaving, using a large weaving loom, is a fun, collaborative and adaptive way for all students to strengthen fine motor skills.
It is evident that strengthening children's fine motor skills is so important right now as smart phone and tablet use becomes the norm. Our students do not show the same growth in fine motor skills at this age level as they once did just a short time ago. Providing an interactive medium for creating art like a textile weaving loom will aid in the development and skills of my students.
