My Students
"TERRIFIC"- one of the words Charlotte weaves into her web to describe Wilbur. Terrific also describes this timeless story about a clever spider who sets out to save her new friend, a pig named Wilbur. I want my students to experience and fall in love with E.B.White's treasured story.
We are 3rd grade students an a high performing school.
Most of my students are reading at or above grade level. This allows for us to participate in some enrichment lessons and activities. Reading and working with Charlotte's Web offers so many learning opportunities outside of the standard curriculum. Our current set of Charlotte's Web books have seen their last days, as they have been loved by many, many students over the years. The covers are torn if not completely missing, all books have missing pages due to the deteriorated binding glue, and the copies are not uniform, so it is very difficult to keep all students on track. A brand new class set of Charlotte's Web books will allow us to begin the next chapter of children loving this wonderful story.
My Project
With a brand new set of Charlotte's Web books, our class will be able to truly enjoy the story and not worry about missing pages and covers. As their teacher, I will be able to ensure all of my students are able to follow along and are exposed to the same materials. We will work with this story as a whole class and in small groups. Students will think and write from the viewpoints of different characters. They will discuss and reflect on the many elements of friendship portrayed in the story, as well as the many emotions experienced by the characters. Furthermore, these books will be loved by many students in the years to come.
For decades, Charlotte has made her lasting impression on readers of all ages.
I want my students to experience the same magic that E.B White created when he gave a barn spider such a clever and honest persona. Help us become part of the countless children who will learn to love Charlotte, Wilbur, and their friendship. We will be able to keep E.B.White's magic alive, as we share the story with children now and in the future.
