My Project

Learning about genetics can be fun! Especially with a fun, creative way to see our very own DNA!

The DNA Necklace Classroom Kits requested in this project would help my students isolate human DNA from their cells and create necklaces that they can wear!

Students extract a DNA cheek cell sample, then watch as white strands of their own DNA precipitate out of a solution containing ethanol. After transferring their DNA to plastic microcentrifuge tubes, students fashion the tubes into DNA pendant necklaces using colorful string. This is one impactful lab activity that will really get students talking about DNA and science!
