Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic English language learners that need a few tools to help them stay on track. 100% receive free lunch. They come to the school full of enthusiasm but needing even the most basic supplies, including pens, pencils, and notebooks.
Our school has a great track record of helping these students graduate with success; however, we have limited resources and do not always have the means to purchase essential tools for our students to make them successful in class.
My Project
My students put in a hard-working day of learning all their core contents while learning English as a Second Language at the same time. Although they are provided lunch, sometimes by the end of the day they start to lose energy and need to revive themselves. Many of them stay after school to get extra help, meaning they go for long periods of time without any food.
A quick snack break can do wonders for students struggling to learn a new language all day long.
By offering them a fruit snack or crackers, I can see the increased energy it gives my students to help them make it through the day.
