This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The last two years that I taught 1st grade I've noticed that we run out of a few things early on in the year. One of them being crayons. Yes, crayons. It is important for first graders to learn to color and express themselves artistically. Sometimes they are still learning to use crayons and they break. Sometimes they don't have crayons at home, so we send home a little baggie. Sometimes our activities and lessons are so exciting and extensive that we use the whole crayon! I'd love it, if this year, we didn't run out.
Another very important classroom supply is a pencil sharpener.
I cannot tell you how many pencil sharpeners I have bought in the past two years (yes I can, 4). We also run out of dry erase markers pretty quickly and laminating sheets, so that students have visuals to use that last throughout the year.
I like to bring a lot of fun into my classroom too, that's why there's a Lego box and googly eyes. I'm sure my students would LOVE to build all kinds of things with them! Kids also deserve fun prizes and helpful books for social and emotional learning.
