My Students

The circus is coming to our auditorium this spring, and what better way to inspire my students' creativity than to have a Body Sox dance performance!

I teach a creative and terrific group of twenty-nine fifth grade students at a Title I school in sunny Southern California.

My class is filled with students of all levels and special needs from highly gifted, to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, to students with autism. We all work together to learn, explore, and grow our brains. My school won the California Distinguished School Award a few years ago because we integrate the arts into our academic curriculum. My students often speak another language other than English at home, including: Tagalog, Spanish, and Chinese. We all get along as one community, speaking English in class, and honoring our background and culture.

My Project

We want to put on a play this spring based on our favorite novel, "The One and Only Ivan". After we read the book, we will write a script, cast the play, and perform it for the students at school, our parents, and our community. We are expanding the novel to include a circus scene, and that is where we need your help! My students want to choreograph a dance sequence for the circus scene, and they want to wear Body Sox when they perform their dance sequence. I have requested 5 Body Sox stretchable costumes so my students can move, tumble and dance with ease in their performance. How much fun they will have in designing their dance, filming their dance wearing their costumes, then altering their dance now that they can see how the costumes can work by blending together to create one beautiful mass of form.

Your help in donating to this project means that my students will learn about dance and performance by wearing costumes that will inspire them.

These costumes will be used for many years, inspiring students to express themselves and learn the magic of dance performance.
