This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember writing your first story or poem and having to read it aloud to the class. Well, imagine being an English Language Learner and unable to write a message. Feeling a bit of panic because the sentences are lacking some structure. The students need to develop their writing skills.
We are in a Title One school.
My students come from various countries with different levels of language proficiency and economic backgrounds. They are eager to acquire their second language, but sometimes shy away from sharing their work due to language abilities, and lack of confidence.
My Project
My students are acquiring the English language, they begin with listening, followed by speaking, then reading and finally writing. Writing skills are much harder to acquire, it requires more processing of language in order to produce a message. I believe the Lakeshore Writing Kits will be a fun way to motivate the students to develop some of their writing skills and also build on their reading comprehension.
My goal for the students is to be able to write complete sentences which will lead to create stories, articles and poems.
These kits will help strengthen the students confidence in not just writing, but also with reading, listening and speaking.
