My students are eager third graders from a high poverty public school. They come to school excited to learn new things and to actively engage in learning.
My students do not have access to technology at home, and our school district cannot provide what they need.
The desire to learn to use a variety of technology is very high in third grade. They are growing up and want to feel like they are acquiring more adult skills. It is important to tap into these desires to encourage them to explore new areas and learn new things.
My Project
This laptop, printer combo, and ink will allow my students to type their writing into a word document and create a printed book that includes colorful pictures, graphs, tables, or charts.
They will design their book cover, title page, dedication page, and the arrangement of the illustrations, charts, graphs, and tables to go with their writing.
They will be published authors for a variety of writing types: fiction, informational, poetry, etc. This experience will create a positive feeling about reading, writing, and publishing.
The students will be able to take their colorful printed books to other classrooms and feel pride when they read them as a "guest author".
