My Students
What seems to take children’s interest away from schoolwork and education nowadays? Television and video games! Although my children are very motivated to learn, they seem to tune out easily from anything that is not on a screen.
My students are smart, outgoing, and very verbal.
They are 90% Hispanic and 10% African American. Very few have computer access at home. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. In my classroom, they get to dream and express their emotions freely. The sky is the limit. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They would thrive as enthusiastic learners if they are provided with the interactive, hands on experience that Smart Board lessons do. They will explore and experience activities in a whole new way.
My Project
Since all of my students have limited assess to technology at home. They love using our Computer in the classroom. I teach in a school with about 850 students. We share one smart board that roves around from one classroom to another. Although very limited, technology is there, but we lack the software. The software for the Smart Board will benefit the class immensely. Our district provides us with a laptop, which is what I am using to publish student work and research projects with them, but one laptop in a classroom is not enough for 24 students. If given a variety of programs for the smart board, their experience will soar to unimaginable rates. They would thrive as enthusiastic learners even more if they are provided with the interactive, hands on experience that a Smart Board lesson does. They can explore and experience activities that otherwise are impossible to do in their home environment.
