My Students
Kindergarten was once a place where children went to socialize and learn through play experiences. Today's kindergarten looks very different, with an emphasis on academic achievement and very few opportunities for play. For some students, this can lead to boredom and behavior problems.
My students come from a wide range of backgrounds.
Some come to school with vast experiences and background knowledge, while others have had very limited educational experiences before entering kindergarten, and are unprepared for the high expectations of students entering school. However, all of these students combined are what makes my job the best job in the world! These little ones come to school excited and ready to learn.
My Project
These books will supplement the very limited guided reading books we currently have available at our school. The level 2-3 books are where my students spend a lot of time as they learn to read so we quickly run out of book options before they are ready to move on to a new level.
When first learning to read independently, children often fall in love with the recurring characters in the books that they read.
The books in this set are new titles that have the same familiar book characters from our current reading sets that our students love and they also and utilize the same high frequency words that we are already teaching. The familiarity of the format and characters in these books will help my young readers to keep reading with the confidence and characters that they have grown to love.
