My ESOL (English for Students of Other Languages) students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some are new to the country and others were born in the U.S. Many speak one or more languages in addition to English at home. The majority of my students come from low income backgrounds. Their families are hard-working and dedicated to providing the best for their children.
I work with students in grades K-5 on a wide range of language levels.
They are all excited to learn. They work hard to master Common Core standards in addition to learning English.
My Project
My ESOL students enjoy reading high-quality, engaging books. They want to learn how they can live healthy lives. These books will allow my students to take ownership of their own health. They will research ways that they can eat healthy food and activities to help them stay physically fit.
Books for our classroom library about nutrition and wellness will help my ESOL students learn more about these important topics.
I am also requesting some bilingual books so that native Spanish speaking students can more fully understand this information and share it at home. Finally the well-written language in these books will allow my students to use them as models when they are writing.
