This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help our students to become fluent and smart readers.
Our students are from New York and they attend a school where there are high drop-out rates and many come from low income families.
Despite the odds they are facing these students are eager and enthusiastic about reading. Our students come to school everyday wanting to listen to stories and read as well.
My Project
By providing us with the Mobile Listening Center and Single Student CD Read-Along, the students can focus on the sounds of words that provide a model of fluent reading. Students will also see how words on a page can come alive in an expressive way. Children will develop a sense of narrative structure and understanding of language. During our literacy center time we set up a listening center so that four children can listen to the same book at the same time. This will provide an opportunity for children to hear their favorite stories with their classmates. The listening center will also provide a space where children can keep their books organized neatly and access it anytime.
I believe that with your contribution, stories on tape will help them to grasp the rich and various ways in which language distills and conveys meaning.
In addition, exposing our children to a range of narrators and their different styles of reading, these materials will deepen their grasp of the reading process. Thank you for your time and willingness to provide an education filled with fun and rigor.
