My Students

I teach at a charter school where my classroom is full of fun, bright, energetic, and curious students. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have different learning styles. Engaging, hands-on learning activities are the secret to our success, and so I am always switching things up and looking to add materials to my classroom to meet their needs.

My students are excited about learning, explaining their thinking, sharing what they know, and experiencing the world around them.

They work hard, help others, and play hard. No matter what we are learning about, my students fearlessly dive into the topic and give it their all. I take pride in creating an atmosphere of respect, love, and taking chances. I am thrilled to be able to provide meaningful learning experiences, and through them instill a love of learning, teach them to care for and help others, and help them to be a person who positively contributes to our local and global communities.

My Project

My first graders are behind and they are working SO hard to learn how to read. I have requested many materials that will help me, help my students to learn how to read. I am taking the LETRS class and a lot of the materials I have requested support what LETRS has taught me in knowing how to help my students to be successful. I have requested magnetic letters for students to build words, games to help my students read CVC words, words with blends, identifying the middle sound. I have also requested the materials with chips to help my lower students with phonemic awareness.

I requested magic writing boards so my students can practice their handwriting and forming their letters the correct way.

I also wanted them to have some larger pencils to help their little hands with their pencil grip. During writing time my students LOVE to share their ideas so I requested some over-sized Post-It notes so we can brainstorm during our writing time. I also want to give them opportunity to write on them and share their learning.

Lastly, I requested some organizers for paper, to keep our learning environment free from clutter so our classroom continues to be a place conducive to learning!
