We Want to Launch into Kindergarten using Starfall.com!

My Students

My students are all 5 and 6 years old. Through my years of teaching, I have found that my Kindergarten students all come to school with different experience levels using technology.

My students LOVE to use the website, Starfall, in our computer lab!

Most of my students come to school with some prior knowledge of a computer, iPad, tablet, or other electronic devices. I have found over the last 5 years that most students do not use a mouse at home when using a computer. Most children are used to using either a touch screen or touchpad device. In our school, all students use a mouse when using a computer in our computer lab. A great way for my young Kindergarten students to get familiar with a mouse is by using the website, Starfall.

My Project

My Kindergarten students begin the year without much knowledge of how to use a computer. At the very start of the year, we go as a class into the computer lab and use Starfall.com. My students love to use this website as it provides my students with a mean to practice using a mouse, and it also teaches them phonics, letters, letter sounds, simple math, and other academic concepts.

The problem is, much of website is not accessible to my students because we need a membership to access the entire website.

Upon further investigating, the Starfall Education Foundation does not allow you to purchase a single classroom membership to use in your school's computer lab. Problem solved! Let's provide a whole school membership so all 3 Kindergarten classrooms (and some other lower elementary classrooms) can enjoy Starfall.com as well.

Starfall.com not only will provide my students with the ability to practice using a mouse but will also provide my students delightfully animated songs, mathematics, and reading activities spanning pre-k to 2nd grade. My students (and the rest of the school) will be able to learn reading and math skills through exploration. The methodology of Starfall.com motivates children to learn more through imagination and play.
