My Students
I am an AIS teacher located in the Bronx, New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first and third grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.
It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.
My Project
My students have reached the age where they are becoming conscious of the environment. They have noticed that as a class, we consume a lot of paper. Using paper translates into cutting down trees, and this is a PROBLEM! My students have come up with a perfect solution. We need a gigantic double sided magnetic white board. This board will allow us to write without wasting paper. Plus, as another advantage we can work as a group since the board is so large. Then we can simply take a picture of our work and download it onto the computer.
So simple really and no tree was harmed.
We also need a magnetic alphabet kit. This will add texture to our work as well as allowing those who have difficulty writing participate with confidence.
