One of the science requirements for second grade is the study of sound. Currently my students hear and read about sound. They even watch me play my clarinet as part of a discussion about how sound vibrates.
However, I would love to provide my students with a way to personally experience how vibrations create sound. Student learning is greatly enhanced through hands on activities. I feel a quality classroom sound set would provide meaningful learning experiences for my students.
I would use the band set, rhythm sticks, bells, and recorders not only during instructional time, but also to teach my students simple songs for a small concert. I feel they would benefit not only from the science aspect of the activity but from the artistic aspect as well.
