Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are not only interested in what's going on next to them, they are also interested in things that happen in their world. I teach Kindergarten to 25 boys and girls in a high need community.
These children do not always see people in their homes reading magazines or keeping up with the news. It is important for them to know the current events that are happening around them.
If we had Weekly Reader Magazines to read in class, the children would not only have a magazine to take home (to hopefully inspire those at home), they would also be learning at the same time. They would be learning about high interest themes that develop pre-reading, critical thinking and word identification skills. We would also receive 4 Poster size big issues each month that would facilitate class participation.
With your help we could open up the events happening in our world to these little ones who will take their magazine home to share with their families. These magazines will also foster family time, as the activities that go with it will be reviewed at home for homework assignments. I am very supportive of the home/school connection and hope that you are too. Thank you for taking time to read this proposal.
