My kindergarteners come to school each day bright eyed and ready to learn. They are enthusiastic souls although many come with little experience and exposure to school and the basic foundations of literacy and math, therefore already being "behind." As a teacher, not only want do I want to instill the love of learning within my students but I also want to set them up for success for their school career. I always say to my students: "The more you practice." and they shout: "The better we get!"
At my school many of the students do not speak English as a first language and do not have many resources at home.
Our school is full of students from various places around the world from Turkey to Lithuania to Congo and Iraq. Despite the challenges of being new in a country, these kids are desirous to learn and try their best. Together, we work create a community based on trust, kindness, and fairness in our classroom. We strive to create a space where learning is hands-on, engaging and fun! School is not only a place for academics but also a space to learn to be apart of a community.
My Project
I have a group of interactive and excited kindergarten students. We have been doing some amazing learning in the midst of a pandemic. These items would help engage my students in their learning in a variety of ways.
The teacher whiteboard would allow me to demonstrate and model concepts at my small group table to meet the needs of my students.
The lined student whiteboards would help my students in the learning and practice of writing letters which is a crucial skill in Kindergarten.
The magnifying glasses and tinker set would allow me students to explore and engage in science and STEM activities during our oral language block each day.
The flip books and word tiles would allow my students to practice read CVC words with success while the number blocks would allow them to build their number sense in an engaging way.
