My Students

Science is everywhere in today's world. It is part of our daily lives, from gardening, to recycling and comprehending the daily weather. Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science. ~Edwin Powell Hubble, The Nature of Science, 1958

My students come from a high poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few.

My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on. Many of my students are English Language Learners that attend a public school in the South Central Los Angeles area. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.

My Project

Advances in technology and science are transforming our world at an incredible pace, and our children's future will surely be filled with leaps in technology we can only imagine. Being "science literate" will no longer be just an advantage but an absolute necessity. We can't escape from the significance of science in our world. I need the materials that I'm requesting. I need a plant light house to plant flower seeds and observe the growing process of a plant. The frog injected biosmount and egg comparison set biorama display will hep me to get my students excited about science when they visit the science center. I will display them in my classroom so the students can be curious about the displays and they can start asking questions about the preserved animals. I will allow my students to use the two Rovers during STEM Friday to motivate them about science engineering in space. I need the Science journals so students can write, draw and explain their observations.

I love those moments when students suddenly see something amazing, or grasp a concept, and their eyes light up.

Having these materials that I'm requesting will allow these moments to happen more frequently. I want my students to develop confidence to think for themselves, developing and testing new theories, which is our scientific culture.
