This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Coronavirus has affected the country in many ways, and NYC has arguably been hit the hardest. My students left school on a regular Friday and we never came back. Teachers had 3 days after to meet, plan, and bring home whatever they could take. We never thought that we wouldn't be going back!
We worked hard to make sure that every student at my school secured technology, and even internet, throughout the city.
Kids are working from laptops, iPads or smartphones.
My Project
One of the greatest challenges so far with distance learning has been recreating some of the visual supports and scaffolds that an in-person experience offers such as writing on whiteboards, using manipulatives, etc.
With the Osmo and iPad, I will be able to cast what I am writing or showing to the video chat screen, making it easier to teacher and review certain concepts.
I will also be able to use letter tile manipulatives to work with students who require reading intervention. When we go back to school, these items will be just as helpful for small group or 1:1 work!
