My Students

My classroom is a place where students are pushed to be the best that they can be. I promote advanced and creative thinking through exploration and choice. My classroom is a place where students can prepare for college and careers.

My students are juniors and seniors.

We live in a high poverty area where a large portion of our student body K12 is on free or reduced lunch. By the time students reach me, many of them have jobs or are caring for younger siblings. They are information hungry.

My Project

I am requesting 17 copies of Barron''s AP English Literature and Composition study guides. My students and I will use these books as a primary text in our Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition classroom. Students will be able to use these to not only learn about reading literature critically, but they will also use the practice tests to prepare for the AP Exam in the spring.

The texts will not only create knowledge and background for the AP Literature Exam, but they will also develop critical reading and thinking skills in my students.

Also, students will learn cooperative skills and discussion/conversation techniques that will benefit them for years to come. I am hopeful these texts will help improve our AP Literature scores and assist students in developing a critical eye for texts and information.
