This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Reading helps to develop young minds. My class loves Read Alouds and they often check out the book that I am reading to them. What better way to engage them than to supply each student with a copy of the book I am reading!
My students come to school everyday with a thirst for knowledge.
I was fortunate enough to loop with my students from Second to Third Grade. They are often upset when we do not have school because they love to learn anything and everything.
We are a Title 1, high poverty level school with majority of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. There is a high EL population and these students need access to books that will teach them new skills and reinforce vocabulary. However, many of the the students do not have the resources at home to continue their learning.
The teachers in our school often spend their own money to purchase materials that will help our students to be successful.
My Project
We need class sets of various books in order to conduct class Read Alouds. With a class set of 3 different titles, my students will be able to follow along over the next few months as I read aloud. They will be able to use these books as a reference for reports and to reinforce new vocabulary skills. This will empower my students and get them excited about reading.
These sets of books (Freckle Juice, Frindle, and No Talking) will also be shared with other classes in the school so they can take advantage of class read alouds.
Now is the time to make a difference and provide our students with the materials they need to read.
Don't you remember when you were in third grade and you started reading chapter books. These students need class sets of books. Just imagine how excited they will be when they open a book they enjoy!
