Guitar is such a fun instrument and I have had numerous children ask if they could learn how to play. I play my purple guitar in class all the time and they are in awe of what an amazing sound it can make.
My students are very gifted and talented, but due to their poverty, they are not able to do many of the things they wish to do, for example, play guitar.
Having a guitar program at my school would give the students an opportunity that not all elementary school students have.
My Project
Many people have told me that they were forced into piano lessons or forced into other activities, but no one has ever told me a story about not wanting to play the guitar. Many of my students have asked me if they could learn how to play and I simply cannot teach them due to the lack of resources. These guitars would give the fourth and fifth graders at my school this opportunity!
I believe that having this program at my school would advance the students' learning and help them in all areas of school other than just music.
It would also give them something to take with them away from elementary school and they may aspire to be in a band or some other music organization.
