My Students
Art is an expression. It can be used to enhance any curricular area. My students will learn this year about all the elements of art. Color theory and color mixing with paints is just so engaging. You will also find art integrated into ELA and science in my classroom.
My school is a beautiful rural school with a population of approximately 500.
Almost 60% of our school is on free and reduced-price lunch. Transportation to this school is required- all students ride the bus or are driven to school by their parents as there are no surrounding neighborhoods. Our school community works hard to bring multiple experiences to our students including sports, visual arts, music, school garden, and daily science classes.
My Project
My students need construction paper of various colors, tempera paint in primary colors and white, watercolor refill trays, and Crayola markers. We do a great project each spring for Earth Day. We will be using a literacy model to help students try to understand how we value features of our planet. By creating an 'I Love the Earth' model book, students will go through a writing exercise to determine what each student values in different sections of the environment. Students need the construction paper, watercolors, and markers for this beautiful piece of art. In addition, students will experiment with color- an element of art that requires many experiences with mixing to come up with the secondary and intermediate colors.
While our district stretches itself financially to broaden the experiences to our students, it can't always support with the materials as it does with emotional and educational support.
I am thankful there is an opportunity through Donors Choose to meld the two to bring art to my students. It will significantly improve the class culture and well-being of my students.
