My Students

The love of learning begins at a very early age! My classroom is full of very active little learners. Our children attend a Title I school that is located in an urban, high-poverty community, where 96% of the students are economically disadvantaged.

The majority of my students are either homeless or come from single-parent homes, which causes them to have limited access to everyday learning materials.

It is hurtful to say that so many of them have been through much more in their short 3-5 years than any of us could ever imagine. Even with that being said, they somehow find a way to come to school every day eager and ready to learn.

My Project

Please help me to carry out this activity so I am able to introduce feely books, books on tape, and books on disc to my students. As children read they exercises their brains, build new connections and improve their concentration. They also learn about the world around them, people, places and events outside their own experiences.

Reading exposed children to ways of life, ideas and beliefs about the world which may be different from those which surround their day to day environment, it builds a store of background knowledge which helps younger children learn language, vocabulary, imagination, and encourage them to find a love of books so they learn to read confidently and well.
