Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars love school and are eager to learn! They can be seen showing their leadership skills by reading to a classmate, assisting a younger scholar with classwork or organizing materials for a project. When visitors enter my classroom, they always compliment my scholars on how engaged they are in discussions about books and conversations about using innovative strategies in math.
Each of my students come from low-income homes.
The cultural make-up of our students is as follows: 91% Latino (Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Ecuador), 7% are African or African-American; and 1% are Asian. 36% of our scholars are English Language Learners. More than half of our students are part of after-school programs that allow them to be active, express themselves on stage, or develop their skills in reading, writing and math.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because they will not have to worry about having an extra face covering, if they one they have gets wet or soiled. These specific cotton masks have a clear center for improved communication and recognition of emotions. The cotton construction allows for a comfortable wear, and the clear fabric allows for easy communication. Also included in the construction of the mask is a bendable nose wire for the ultimate fit. These face coverings will be made available to students who need one and will be used in school, sent home to be washed daily and kept by that student to be used if they need an extra one.
My students are energetic and because the mask they came to school with will quickly become sweaty or dirty, it is imperative that I have extra masks.
This will ensure that all students have a cloth face coverings that is not wet and a face shield that is clean. A wet cloth face covering may make it difficult to breathe. By having extra face coverings, my students will not be tempted to share or swap cloth face coverings. With the clear fabric, my students will be able to clearly communicate with their teachers and classmates. The face masks are not only perfect for our PPE needs, they are also perfect for seeing smiles!
