Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in a large metropolitan city. The population of our students are from a wide range of diverse backgrounds: 71% Latino, 17% Asian, 4% African American, and 8% Other.

We are proud of our diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds as students gain global perspective and awareness.

Our school offers Spanish and Korean language immersion programs for our students. Students who are enrolled in our language immersion programs are bilingual as well as bi-literate by the time they complete 5th grade.

88% of our students are from at risk and low income families. Despite their economic hardships, our students are awesome and eager learners! They arrive at school each day with enthusiasm and a desire to learn and contribute as global citizens.

My Project

Our students have been working hard on creating the monthly news broadcast at our school. Students report on recent and upcoming events, and they give tips and reminders on behavior and citizenship. The broadcast is student produced and edited.

Students love to showcase their technology and speaking skills in creating the monthly news broadcast.

So far, we have been working with iPads and iMovie to create the videos, however we need more equipment to make our broadcasts the best they can be.

We need a green screen, lapel microphones, headphones, and an iPad stand to make our broadcasts more professional. The students would use these materials to conduct interviews and add more segments to the news. Our students are enthusiastic about connecting with the school community and modeling leadership through this wonderful extracurricular club.
