We Really Need Materials For Our Kindergarten Classroom!!

My students need one leveled reading set with levels from A - F and a boxed reading set with levels from A-D as well as a sight-word reading box set. We need 6 easel pads and two easels with 3 packages of chart markers for instruction. We need dry one dry-erase easel and dry erase markers to write on our individual white boards. We need 2 reams of card stock two hole punches and 100 binder rings to work on our sight words. We also need post-its, 120 pencils, 30 erasers, and chalk, one pocket chart and one Flipchart-Early Concepts Sing Along With CD.

My kindergartners are the future. I teach kindergarten at an extremely high-needs charter school in one of the most poverty stricken communities in the nation. I have 24 exceptionally beautiful four and five year old children who are beginning K at ground zero. Our classroom theme is Watch as our Kindergarten Garden Grows!, however without books and teaching supplies, I am very afraid that we will not reach our BIG GOAL of growing 1.5 years!

My incredible kindergartners live in the most dangerous city in America which has one of the worst performing education systems in the nation. Many of my beautiful students came to school with nothing but a pencil and a folder. A large part of my kids have serious speech deficiencies and two are borderline nonverbal, suggesting general neglect. We have so much work to do and we do not have the ways and means to do so! We don't have books, pencils, erasers, chart paper, a dry erase board etc! There is one bottom line: we need books and supplies!!! There are also very little resources in my classroom. I teach at a school that has 99% free lunch and the resources for these students are very few and far between. These students do not have pencils and erasers, but most importantly, they do not have books and I am not supplied chart paper or markers to facilitate instruction. Many of my students come to school hungry and have less than ideal hygiene. Also from what I can tell, they have deplorable home situations. I want to make sure that every moment they spend with me in my classroom is a positive one that enhances not only their self worth, but also enhances their knowledge base as a whole.

The solution is...books, resources and supplies to facilitate and enhance instruction and learning! We need leveled reading sets so my class can visually see improvement as they move from one level to the next. We need a sight word reading set to help us move forward with our reading. We need a dry erase board and two easels and chart paper for the year so I can give explicit instruction to groups of my kids. We need dry erase markers to write on our dry erase boards and chart markers to write on our chart paper. We need pencils and erasers for the year as well as a early readers sing along set. We basically need EVERYTHING a normal kindergarten class has. I have thus far, and will continue to work absolutely relentlessly to ensure that my students are given the best in education. I will make sure that these students have the same opportunities as their same age wealthy peers who live just down the road. I will do anything and everything in my power to help my students read, but their skills will not be enhanced without books and the supplies we need. I have purchased many supplies however they are dwindling! My students need BOOKS and materials to enhance their learning!

This may seem like a long list of supplies but GUESS WHAT! You can make it possible for my kindergartners to have books to read, supplies to use and resources to learn from! You can make it possible for my students to have the same opportunities as their same age peers who live in the same city! You can make sure that these students have what they need to learn and grow in this world. Thank you SO much for even taking the time to read this proposal.
