Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarteners love Dr. Seuss! The humor of his stories gets kids laughing and excited about reading while the rhyme and rhythm of his writing help early readers. My kindergarten classroom of 20 students, 17 of whom are English language learners, need Dr. Seuss in our class library.
As a school, our goal is for kindergarteners to finish the year reading independently. From the first day of the year to the last, our children are exposed to high-quality literature. Dr. Seuss is a critical part of early reading experiences and my classroom library is currently lacking in his books. We need a set of Dr. Seuss favorites to read-aloud together, for students to read independently, and for them to borrow and read at home.
In addition, Dr. Seuss-related games and puzzles will be used in literacy work stations for students to get additional practice with letters, colors, and shapes. Dr. Seuss character puppets can be used by students to retell and perform stories, building their reading fluency. In addition, we will be celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss in March - these materials will be a central part of that celebration as well.
