This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergartners are vivacious inner city kids who love to move, jump, play, touch and explore thier surroundings. My students come from all over the world. Many of them have been speaking in their native language all thier life. Now that they have entered our school, they are learning English as a second language along with learning math, science and social studies.
Our school is an inner city school servicing a large community of immigrant students and their families.
My students are at the heart of this community representing the beginning of the american dream as they take off in school.
My Project
Our Kindergarten students are learning to read in English and in Spanish! However Spanish books are very hard to find. We need books in Spanish for student to choose from in our library. Our students need to have access to reading material at their level in the language that they are learning in. These books will open the doors to reading in a language that they hear at home and in school.
Our students are proud to be part of a program where they can learn in two languages.
In our classroom we call it our super power. Books in Spanish will strengthen their superpower.
