About My Students
Yashira, also know as "Yoshie" to her sisters in softball, has been team captain of the illustrious Lady Tigers for the past two years. She is the epitome of determination both in the classroom and on the field. Yoshie is a leader in all that she does and created this project to honor Ms. Holloway.
This past month, our school community lost a beloved fixture who worked tirelessly together with her team to ensure learning for all of the kids who crossed her path. Ms. Holloway was a strong advocate for females in sports and loved her Lady Tigers. Despite how we stood in the league standings, she never missed a home game and could be seen cheering for her girls on the sidelines. After news of her passing, members of the Lady Tigers took it upon themselves to organize a candlelight vigil in her memory. It was truly an awesome sight to witness such an overwhelming number of students who joined the Tigers in honoring a beautiful and loving person. The team captain, Yoshie, would like to continue honoring Ms. Holloway by dedicating this upcoming season to her. She designed hooded sweatshirts and visors commemorating Ms. Holloway so that she will always be with them at every game and their trip to Florida State University. When asked, girls will proudly say "We play for Holloway."
We have created another project on Donorchoose for the opportunity to go to Florida State University where the Lady Tigers will be mentored by one of the best women's college softball teams in the United States. Our first visit to FSU can be seen in our documentary, "Lady Tigers Concrete Dreams" on YouTube. The focus of this trip is to convey to girls who have become fixated on the notion of perpetual failure that they could be successful via education and dedication. When we embark on this great adventure, the girls and their chaperones will wear the donated team hooded sweatshirts and visors which will not only further unify them and help them represent their team but will also honor our greatest supporter, Ms. Holloway.
In Their Own Words
My name is Yoshie and I am the team captain of the Lady Tigers. My goal this year is to honor a beautiful person who passed away this summer. Ms. Holloway was like a mother to everyone in the school and she believed in all of us. I want for her memory to live on and we have dedicated this season to her. With the help of my coach, I designed hooded sweatshirts and visors that say "We Play For Holloway" on the back so that she is always with us at every game.
With my teacher's help, I will be the leader that I've always been. The girls look to me for advice and since I am graduating this year, I want to prove to them that this team will always mean the world to me. I will do everything I can to make sure this team is successful. I know Ms. Holloway is looking down on us so I want to show her how much we appreciate all that she has done for us. I will lead my team to victory!
Our school community lost a great person and it is important to always remember what Ms. Holloway has done for us. It is easy to forget people who are gone but having hooded sweatshirts worn by the whole team that say "We Play For Holloway" will keep her memory alive. Please help us honor Ms. Holloway who was like a mother to all us girls.
