Help me give my students the updated technology they need to learn graphic art and digital drawing skills. These 21st century skills will help them in so many areas regardless of their future careers.
I have been challenged with the goal of growing the Digital Drawing Arts program, but the technology I may have access to is shared with another department and outdated. My students are eager to learn digital design skills that can be applied in many future careers, and it would be a shame if our lack of adequate technology held us back.
By adding five iPads to our very limited class equipment, I can introduce students to current design technologies that reflect industry standards and I will be able to challenge them in new ways.
Students that attend our academy come from all over our school district. These students are talented, driven, and engaged in the learning of fine arts, but they do not all come in with the same resources. I have access to an old set of MacBooks but I borrow them from the CTE department and only a third of the computers will run the software we need; many don't turn on, or won't even connect to wifi!
Ideally, we could create an iPad cart for the Digital Media class to access. This cart would be part of the Visual Arts Department at our school instead of being borrowed from CTE, and we would be able to share it when needed among all fine arts staff in order to meet the Art & Technology requirements in the Art I TEKS (§117.52 2F) allowing us to reach 100s of students.
If you are in a position to support us, I would be incredibly grateful, as will my students. It's a small start, but each student will get to work with this technology and start to develop strong digital design skills. This will allow greater for greater equity for all students.
