This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching in a lower income community, I love to expose my students to not only many different types of learning methods and techniques, but also to different cultures and learning experiences.
I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
My students need a wireless airplay speaker. We are asking for a another wireless speaker that will allow us to stream music. This will allow me to stream music throughout my classroom to inspire my students to learn. My students love finding inspiration in music and this would be a seamless and easy way to manage and set up my classroom.
Also, I plan to use this new speaker for my concerts in our cafeteria. With this wireless speaker, I will be able to place it in the back of our cafeteria for parents, teachers and students to listen to concerts the way the are intended to be heard.
This project is important because as I mentioned, I want to create a safe haven for my students.
I want to create a space where they can forget their problems outside my classroom walls and just learn. These materials will help me add to the ambiance of these safe haven.
