This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a diverse classroom filled with 20 fabulous kindergartners. We come from all over, (myself included- speaking English & Greek.) Although we are use to limited resources, we make the best out of what we have in the most creative ways.
I teach at a Title 1 School, where 100% of our amazing students receive free breakfast & lunch located in our Nations Capital.
Many come to school with emotional hardships. Some commuting long distances to get to school by the metro or bus, some in and out of different shelters.
Our little ones come to school everyday rockin' our class motto "We will, we will ROCK THIS." Students are encouraged to try, shown that they can succeed & that they can do whatever it is they put there minds to - regardless of what materialistic resources are available to them. We learn that with our hearts we can gain motivation, and with our brain we gain knowledge on how to succeed.
My Project
In order to extend our learning specifically during reading and math,iPads will give students the access to hundreds of early reader texts & ebooks. They will also allow students to receive individualized interventions (who need additional support) or acceleration (who need more challenging activities) with the current technology that is available.
Your generous donation will not only provide students the ability to learn through technology, but make them feel so special and excited that these gifts are for them to use, learn, and love.
As a teacher, I try to balance the importance of the rigorous modern day curriculum expectations (yes, even for kindergarten) with the importance of still having fun, exploring, learning to be kind, learning to share. Not only learning to love one another but to love coming to school. Many students come to school with many emotional distractions and hardships.
These iPads will allow students to engage in core subject areas, as well as exploring science, history, and their own individual interests that can truly get a 5 year old motivated to continue to learn.
These iPads will provide my class with such a gift that students will always remember using them as one of their favorite part of the day!
