Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. I see about a thousand students every week, from Kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.
Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch and some of them even go home without food on the weekends.
My Project
I am requesting Magna-Tiles and six Spirograph Super and Junior sets. The benefit of Magna-Tiles in the classroom are endless! When children use Magna-Tiles, the more they have, the more elaborate their creations are! The Magna-Tiles and a magnetic board are for building their designs. The spirograph sets with different sizes of gears and colorful gel pens will make endless opportunities to create works of art.
Students will learn about mathematical patterns and gain an appreciation of creative design using math and art.
With a new emphasis on STEAM learning in the Common Core Curriculum, these are just a few hands-on items that we can use for learning. Magna-Tiles and spirograph sets will inspire inquisitive young minds.
