I teach twenty-five happy and excited-to-learn third graders, and all day long they have fun growing and thinking, and trying their best. Our school is a wonderful, small multicultural school located in Los Angeles. Over 35% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast. Our school specializes in integrating art and technology with our academic subjects. My students learn best when I generate excitement for learning. Through a mixture of laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads, we now have enough technology in our classroom that we can have 1:1 technology integration!
What we need is a way to store our laptops so they can be charging in a cart during the day.
This would be fantastic, because now when my students want to use the laptops to write their essays, work on PowerPoints or Keynote presentations, they have to find a place to sit that has electricity nearby so they can charge their laptop.
My Project
My third graders love using technology, and I am glad to provide it to them in our classroom. Today they had to write the final draft of a business letter, and when I mentioned that they could use a pen or a laptop, so many of my students wanted to use the laptops. Unfortunately, many were not charged and we had to find electrical outlets all over the classroom for my students to use.
I have requested a charging cart so the students can safely store and charge their laptops during the day.
When my students need to use technology, they will be able to easily have access to a fully charged laptop. We have this cart for our chromebooks, and I verified that the laptops we have will also fit wonderfully into this charging cart.
I am thrilled that I can offer enough technology that my students can have access to either an iPad, chromebook, or a laptop to do their essay writing, research, and PowerPoints. My students also use the laptops and classroom technology to access online programs to practice their multiplication tables and perform interactive science experiments. Our school offers access to this iPads or laptops once a week for 45 minutes, so having this type of technology in our classroom for daily access is essential.
Your help in donating to this project means that we will not have to walk around our room with students all over the place, connecting their technology to electricity when they want to work on a laptop, but it isn't charged. With this charging cart, our equipment will be stored safely during the day and fully charged. This will be a fantastic resource for our classroom.
