This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help!!! We need encouragement to read, but our library is not the best. If we had books we liked we would read more. If our teacher had ink for her printer all the time she could print out some reading log sheets for us to keep track of our reading summaries.
My Project
My students attend a school in the high bridge section of the Bronx. They are a special education class that ranges from 6 - 8 grade. Most of the students in my class are boys and they hate to read. We have silent reading everyday for 30 minutes and they refuse to pick up any of the books in my small library that I have. They don't think the selections we have are for boys, so they said they rather not read at all.
They are hard working students, however they never got the opportunity to love reading, because they have never been introduced to books that they can enjoy therefore they think reading is not imperative.
They are very energetic and they do want to read and said they would if I could provide a better selection for them to enjoy, instead of the books they have been reading from the school for the last few years.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
