We Need to Print: Bilingual Materials and Publish Our Writing!
Help me give my students color printed bilingual materials to practice reading at home with their parents and the ability to print/publish their own writing!
This year, in ESL, some of my younger students really struggled to gain basic concepts like ABCs and numbers in English. After doing an assessment in their native language of Spanish, we discovered that these students also lacked these concepts and skills in their native language. At that point, we decided to start teaching these concepts in Spanish and English. After we started using this strategy, students for the first time all year, started making big academic gains in both languages!
In this project, we will amplify this process by getting a color printer so that I can print high quality bilingual materials and books for students to take home and practice skills and concepts in home language with parents.
I will also be able to let students print and publish their own writing projects and print out color pictures for reports! This will help students make even more progress in learning English with these high quality bilingual and visual materials!
My students are special because they speak a 2nd language in addition to English! They work very hard and continue to keep a positive attitude. I'd like to reward my students for their hard work by giving them high quality learning materials that they are excited to work with. I’d also like to continue to foster strong relationships with parents by empowering them and giving them access in their first language to work with their students and reinforce concepts in ELA and Math.
My students love surprises and rewards so I can not wait to see their reaction to the new learning materials and the progress they make in English after we have this project funded.
