My Students
I'm sure you all can remember what an important part of the day recess was. It refreshes students and gets them ready for the rest of the day. It is also keeps them moving so they don't become overweight. However with little equipment and no playground this is hard to do at our school.
I teach at a small K-8 public school in rural Kentucky.
Our school is great except that there is no play equipment. I teach a hard-working bunch of 3rd and 4th graders who need a chance to relax and play sometimes. Most of my students are low income and are not able to participate in area sports and other activities. School is the only place where they learn the skills of cooperative teams and social skills. In order to provide the chance for students to be physically active and involved in school sports we need some new materials.
My Project
If we get the new playground balls, word game balls, basketballs, and solar system vests, my students will be able to have fun and enjoyable recesses and active learning games. They will be active instead of sedimentary. For this reason they will be healthier and able to attend school more and learn better. The students will use the playground balls and word game ball to practice basic math and language skills and the solar system vests to learn about the planets in our solar system. The basketballs will help the students learn team skills and cooperation.
