Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a Second Language. I see about a thousand students every week, from Kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.
Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced rate lunch, and some of them even go home without food on the weekends.
My Project
My students come to art once a week for 50 minutes. Most of my students do not have a strong appreciation for art and require much more inspiration to create a work of art. Our budget is tight, and I end up spending most of it on basic art materials. Included in the list of books I have books about famous Artists, colors, shapes, and line. These books and educational materials will help my students expand their knowledge and appreciation for art that will inspire them to create art.
The students at our school could definitely use a little inspiration!
With our current budget I have barely have enough money to buy the staples for an art room, crayons, markers, pencils, and paper. This project will be a start for my students to have some educational materials to expand their art knowledge.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
