My Students
Every year I go through at least two pencil sharpeners in my kindergarten classroom. I have even tried a manual sharpener that was supposed to be unbreakable but my students managed to break it!
My students are five and six year old children that live in central Florida.
Our school is a Title 1 school and that means we have a high percentage of children that qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Our families are the working poor and the unemployed.
Our budget for buying supplies for the school year was $100.00. I cannot replace a pencil sharpener each year and get other supplies that are needed.
My Project
A new heavy duty pencil sharpener will last longer than the run of the mill sharpener that breaks in a few months. I won't have to take all my pencils to another classroom to sharpen them for the day. The students will be able to sharpen and finish their work quicker. My students will also learn that taking care of their school supplies is their responsibility. I am also requesting 1 pack of pencil grips and 6 packs of pencils to be used with the pencil sharpener.
Due to budget cuts, I am unable to purchase a heavy duty pencil sharpener.
By donating to this project my students will be able to be more independent and be able to get their work done more quickly with a sharpened pencil!
