Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have an amazing group of Gifted and Talented second and third graders who absorb learning like sponges. They attend a public inner city school in California. Our school is part of a very large school district with very limited resources and very little support. My students deserve more.

I teach a group of 2nd and 3rd grade Gifted Students in an inner-city school in a large metropolitan city.

A large percentage of students at my school come from low income households and thus all students have access to the free lunch program. My students are enthusiastic learners with a great deal of potential. My job is to expose them to as much real world learning as possible. I want to provide my students with the tools they need to be successful participants in our society. I want them to have access to the world beyond our classroom walls and show them that there are limitless possibilities.

My Project

Imagine being able to watch the transformation of a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly. Imagine watching a butterfly unfurl it's proboscis and suck nectar from a flower. Now imagine also being able to see hundreds of praying mantis emerge from an egg sac and transform from tiny clear creatures into carnivorous insects. By being able to observe the metamorphosis of insects my students will not only learn about life science, but they will forever be inspired to look at the world around them a little closer.

There is nothing more powerful than hands-on learning.

There is nothing more rewarding that watching the excitement and hearing the squeals of joy from students. These hands on science materials will provide my students with real world learning that they will help them make powerful learning connections to the world around them. Learning that they will carry with them.
